Sports and Social Networking

Every year, the Cortland women’s lacrosse team hosts a clinic for high school players to come learn and play at a high level of lacrosse. The clinic typically consists of a skill session in the morning and team play and scrimmages in the afternoon session. The clinic is designed for our team to teach younger girls the sport of lacrosse and enhance their lacrosse knowledge and skills.

I have been coaching this lacrosse clinic for the past three years and every year we have more and more girls attend. This year we had more girls then ever before come to Cortland to pick our brains about the game of lacrosse. Since our program has been extremely successful over the past years, our numbers has drastically increased. Coaching girls lacrosse has always been one of my passions. I have coached numerous lacrosse camps over the past years and I have been around many lacrosse players. I love helping and teaching girls who have the same desire to be a great lacrosse player as I did when I was younger. Being a part of a team is a privilege and has been some of the best times and experiences of my life. Giving back that experience to young lacrosse players is such a fulfilling feeling and one that I truly enjoy.

Lacrosse is a fairly new and popular sport, though through these camps I have formed several relationships with people and made some great friends. I have coached family members, friends, girls within the community and I have worked with some amazing lacrosse players and coaches. Forming these relationships has been entertaining and important for future references. Social networking is not only important socially; it also has an effect on future job offers and opportunities. Through word of mouth everyone knows the best lacrosse players, the best coaches, and the best schools to attend. I have played with girls who play in college all over the country and I have worked with coaches from all over as well. I hope to have my own team one day and coach lacrosse. I would love to be the head coach of a varsity team and bring the same excitement and love of the game to my students and players.
