Faculty and Staff in Schools

Faculty and staff in schools should have the desire to do whatever it takes for their students. As a staff member, I believe it is your responsibility to look out for all students and educate them on various subject matters. Faculty in schools should never take the easy way and simply through up a power point presentation for the students to learn and they should never just “roll the ball out” in any physical education class. As a teacher, you choose your profession and you should want to be the very best teacher you can for the students. Being a great teacher is very different then being a just a good teacher. Every staff member should strive to be the very best. They can do this by mixing their lessons up and by being creative. Rather then using a power point everyday, they can act our various lessons and make the setting more realistic. In physical education, teachers should be heavily involved in the activities the students are participating in. Rather then simply watch and keep score, the teachers should be walking around the class, helping students, jumping in to play a few rounds, and motivating them to succeed. Even something little as play music for the students makes a tremendous difference to the students and it motivates them to want to come out to play everyday. Faculty and staff in schools should never take the short road because they can, instead they should challenge themselves as teachers to create the best and most interesting lesson plan that will be effective for all students.

I believe that as a faculty and staff member, it is also their job to be a good listener for students and to always be there in time of need. Unfortunately there are many situations where students come from broken homes and need someone to talk to outside of their family. Teachers are commonly the first person students go to because they feel comfortable with them from being in class, which is why I believe every teacher should always have ears open listen. Sometimes all a student wants is for someone to listen to them, and if by doing that makes them feel safer and fulfilled, a teacher should be available at any time in need. Faculty and staff members in schools should also pass on their knowledge and wisdom to students to influence their decision-making and to teach them life lessons. School is not always about learning new subjects because there is so much that happens within the school hours that effects student’s personal life and their experience as well. Faculty members can influence a student’s life on a daily basis, which is why students look up to them. As a teacher you are a role model as well, which is why I believe there is a lot more to teaching then simply teaching your subject,  but also teaching through experiences as well.
