Teaching Philosophies

A philosophy of education refers to ones belief in a specific type or vision of education, in which they examine the definition, goals, and meaning of education. A philosophy of education is a personal belief and style that one would like to portray in their classroom. Teachers create their own philosophies to express their unique style, creativity, and the motives they stand for. A philosophy of education is important for every teacher to discover and create for his or her self. Philosophies are what a teacher stands for and what they wish to instill amongst their students. It is important for a teacher to create their own philosophy, that way the students can see where they are coming from and generate their knowledge from their own attitudes. A teacher can have one philosophy or several; there is no limit. They are strictly personal theories that they wish to demonstrate and use to maintain a structured and effective class.

Teacher-centered philosophies of education focus more on how they want to structure their class, how they want to present the information to the students, and what knowledge they want to educate their classes with. Their philosophies are based upon achieving success for the students and looking out for their overall best interest in education. While a student-centered philosophy of education may be more focused on their ability to maintain their grades and complete their homework. The goals of the students may vary depending on the student. One could strive to be valedictorian, while another may just want to graduate high school. Students philosophies are much more complicated and very different due to the huge diversity of students. However there is one common goal, which is to end with decent grades.
